The Challenge

Logistics and transportation are key factors for improved quality of life and a healthy environment. As the ports expand, airports traffic grows, NAFTA trade escalates and rail traffic intensifies, congestion is expected to quickly reach alarming levels. Houston, Harris County, and the state of Texas have all identified congestion and transportation issues as key threats to economic growth. Safety and security are additional issues that must be addressed by transportation policies.

Increased international competition requires industries to update their supply chain processes for better utilization of their assets and people. Each component in the supply chain and logistics process needs to be reviewed, measured against best practices, and updated.

As the role of Houston as an international logistics hub grows, the need for additional training for the work force of the private and public sectors will continue to expand. To sustain the growth of small, medium and large businesses and enhance their global competitiveness, it is necessary to provide a modern training forum with emphasis on value-added skill sets.
